Charlottetown, PE – discoverygarden, the primary contributor to the Islandora Open Source Digital Asset Management Project, announced today the launch of Islandora OnDemand, a hosted Islandora Platform service that allows users to quickly generate websites fully-configured to run Islandora and begin using the end-to-end digital asset management system within minutes.
discoverygarden’s platform includes all of the growing features and modules that the Islandora project now has available for download, but eliminates the need for on-site installation, hardware maintenance and configuration. Using infrastructure automation software developed by Puppet Labs, the Platform is designed to take advantage of ongoing Islandora module development by providing seamless updates from discoverygarden. The Platform is also designed to maintain user control over content, providing simple access to the data directory; users can retrieve their data for any reason, at any time.
discoverygarden President Mark Leggott says this allows users to concentrate on growing their repositories rather than worrying about hardware or systems issues.
“Whether it’s research information or digital assets that need to be preserved and managed in a central system, or someone wants to quickly create an Institutional Repository, the OnDemand option allows users to concentrate solely on managing their content. The platform is also built in accordance with one of the core philosophies in the Islandora project - adherence to preservation standards.“
Islandora OnDemand currently includes the following features:
- Support for any file format
- User authentication via LDAP
- Customizable front end
- Statistical reporting
- Automatic updates and bug fixes
- Monthly training webinars
- Access to a Resource Centre
