Lib2o

Lib2O combines the Award-Winning Digital Asset Management System, Islandora, and the Evergreen ILS. It is a new open-source information management system - more customizable and cost-effective than any other system available.

Designed by Librarians, for Librarians, Lib2o is the first open-source library appliance with an integrated library system (ILS) and the added benefit of the collaborative tools within the Islandora Digital Asset Management (DAM) system. The Evergreen ILS consists of cataloguing, acquisitions, serials, and circulation systems, along with a customizable interface. The award-winning Islandora DAM, initially developed at UPEI, includes the following installed components: Apache, Tomcat, PostgreSQL, Drupal, Javascript, Solr, Fedora, Islandora, Jabber, XML. The finished product is delivered on a Dell PowerEdge T410 server.

Lib2O is a unique product for a number of reasons. It allows institutions to obtain enterprise-level software and support without having to spend up-front costs on licensing fees for proprietary software. Since the software is free (and backed by a large integrated community of active developers), organizations can spend resources on customizing the product to suit their needs.

Delegates of the most recent Evergreen Conference in Decatur Georgia were invited to enter a contest to win a free lib2O appliance and one free year of support.  We asked contestants to tell us how Lib2O would benefit their institution.  We’d like to thank all those who entered the contest and to extend our congratulations to Dorchester County Library in St. George, South Carolina !!
